USER Experience

Overview

In my Design for User Experience class at USC, I founded Sourcer, a freelance aggregator platform. I led a design team of 3 from ideation to prototyping.

Entrepreneurial Realities

We spoke with business owners and freelancers at various stages of their careers. These conversations revealed key insights:

01

It is time consuming and inefficient for business owners to look through freelance websites.

02

Freelancers wish they had more freedom in choosing projects.

03

Clear communication is crucial between freelancers and clients.

Problem

With countless freelance job sites scattered across the internet, business owners often find themselves wasting precious time looking through endless listings, often ending up with subpar candidates and overpriced offers.

Freelancers do not have many options in choosing the gigs they take, leading to unfulfilling projects and difficult client relations.

Here's what people are saying on Reddit & Quora:

D*****

Quora

I would call Fiverr the "desperate crack dealer" of the freelancer world. Most of the work there, too, has been devalued.

Reddit

Yea, I paid a guy off Fiverr….Never again. Absolute waste of money.

C******

Quora

Fiverr is for cheap scrooges who don't want to pay proper wages. As a graphic designer, it literally hurts my entire being seeing a company offer $5-10 to commission a pubmat that should cost $200 minimum. Worse, people fall for it!

r/ecommerce

Reddit

Brutal, awful structure, never found any talent and the work I got was always waaay below par.

r/Design

Reddit

Yeah Fiverr is trash. Paid £120 for a logo and it and all subsequent revisions were trash. Ended up having to just accept the loss.

User Personas

How we are Different

To assess the competitive landscape, I analyzed 3 key players in the market. By identifying these strengths and gaps, my team and I had a more concrete direction of the experience we were to create.

Key Takeaways

Sourcer was a significant learning experience for me, both personally and professionally. Leading a design team for the first time taught me how to guide a team towards a shared vision, delegate tasks, and value everyone’s contributions.

Tackling complex design challenges required creative problem-solving and adaptability, while effective communication and time management were crucial to keep the project on track. Beyond these professional skills, this project was a journey of personal growth, pushing me out of my comfort zone, building my confidence, and reinforcing my passion for collaborative design.

A special thank you to my amazing team and Professor Mikaila!
